Under the patronage of the International Association of Geomorphologists

Great offer for Egyptian young researchers:

Two days attendance in Cairo sessions + volume of abstracts inside bag+ 2 lunches+ 5 Coffee breaks

Only 120 LE.

Invitation:

The Organizing Committee of the 1st Symposium and field workshop on Living with Landscapes has the pleasure in inviting researchers in geomorphology and other related fields to participate in the scientific, social program and field workshop. The scientific sessions will held for two days in the conference centre of Cairo University. Field workshop will organize  in Serbit El Khadem area for one day and overnight 4X4 excursion across South Sinai .

Objectives:

1. Reviewing the experiences of participants in adapting their research endeavors in different geomorphic environments.

2. Exchanging experience in the field of applied geomorphology.

3. Exploring new techniques for monitoring and recording the prominent geomorphological features in the landscape.

4. Emphasizing the role of geomorphologists in environmental management.

Topics:

The Symposium will discuss primarily the relationship between man and geomorphological landscape. The points of interests may include the following topics:

  • * Effects of global climatic changes on human life.
  • * Analyses of the ongoing geomorphological processes which affect local landscapes.
  • * The impact of geomorphology on man and his activities.
  • * The role of human activities on soil problems.
  • * Spotlighting the importance of Geomo-archeological analysis.
  • * Effects of weathering and erosion on Geoarcheological sites.
  • * Physical and anthropogenetic hazards.
  • * Geomorphology and land use planning.

(Papers and posters related to the above topics are welcomed)

Field Workshop Objectives:

1. Appreciating the interaction between the different physical and anthropological components of the camping site for primary objectives of assessing the esthetic aspect of the surroundings.
2. Exploring the ways and means of enhancing the utilization of the landscapes traits of the camping site for the ultimate objectives of future development.
3. Emphasizing the fact that living with the landscape is the primary step of spatial management.
4. Inciting researchers to develop a totalistic outlook of the landscape.

Monitoring the landscapes elements through the application of knowledge relevant to:

  • * Giving special significance to the geomorphological traits of Serabit El Khadem.
  • * Analyzing the ongoing geomorphological processes affecting Serabit El Khadem and its surroundings.
  • * Finding appropriate ways and means for maximizing the utilization of the camping area to serve touristic activities.
  • * Stressing the positive correlation between the different aspects of natural environment ( e.i climogeomorphic, hydrogeomorpholgy , pedogeomorphogy..etc)
  • * Familiarizing the participants of the site's vulnerability to geomorphological hazards
  • * Inviting the dialogue and discussion between the participants through their personal experience.

Who should attend?

  • * Earth science researchers.
  • * Applied geomorphologists in all geomorphic regions.
  • * Geo-archeologists.
  • * Environmental and land use planners.
  • * Parks managers and operators.

Languages:
The Official Languages of the symposium will be English and Arabic.
